We would like to introduce you to Government of Georgia Resolution No. 165, which approves the technical regulation concerning electrical equipment intended for use within certain voltage ranges.

The resolution was adopted on May 1, 2023. Certain provisions became effective immediately upon adoption, while others will come into force on January 1, 2025.

The part of the technical regulation that interests us pertains to electrical equipment designed for use within the ranges of 50 to 1,000 volts for alternating current (AC) and 75 to 1,500 volts for direct current (DC).

The measures outlined in the regulation assign responsibilities to manufacturers, importers, and distributors as follows:

Manufacturer’s Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with safety requirements.
• Prepare technical documentation, conduct conformity assessment procedures, issue declarations of conformity, and include information mandated by the technical regulation.
• Retain technical documentation and declarations of conformity.
• Implement appropriate procedures for serial production.
• Mark the electrical equipment with information necessary for identification.
• Provide safety instructions and related information in the Georgian language.
• Take necessary corrective actions as required.
• Cooperate with market surveillance authorities.

Importer’s Responsibilities

• Place on the market only electrical equipment compliant with the technical regulation.
• Before placing products on the market, verify that the manufacturer has carried out the appropriate conformity assessment procedures, prepared the required technical documentation, and marked the equipment with the relevant information.
• Include their name, registered trade name, or trademark, and a postal address for contact purposes on the product.
• Provide safety instructions and related information in the Georgian language.
• Ensure proper storage and transportation conditions.
• Conduct inspections of product samples placed on the market.
• Take necessary corrective actions as required.
• Make technical documentation available to market surveillance authorities.
• Cooperate with market surveillance authorities upon request.

Distributor’s Responsibilities

• Comply with the requirements of the technical regulation.
• Ensure the product is properly marked and accompanied by the necessary documentation.
• Maintain appropriate transportation and storage conditions.
• Implement corrective actions when there is evidence or reasonable suspicion of non-compliance.
• Cooperate with market surveillance authorities.

The goal of this technical regulation is to ensure that electrical equipment placed on the market complies with established requirements, thereby safeguarding human life, the health of domestic animals, and the protection of property.
